In the past few years or so, there has been a rather large to do about "GNU/Linux", or a Linux system based on GNU tools. Personally, I think thats pretty silly. But anyways, I thought I'd join in on the fun and suggest Perl/Linux, a Linux system based (nearly) entirely on Perl. I believe that almost every major component of a Linux system could be replaced by code written in Perl. To that end, I am going to record (here) every type of program you might want to run under Linux that has a version written in Perl. (If I am missing something, let me know)
I'm keeping track of needed software needed for Perl/Linux that has already been written in Perl, and software which needs to be written in Perl. The list is here.
If you thought this was crazy, what about porting Perl to the MIT Exokernel Operating System and creating a PerlOS?
